A smart home fails or succeeds at first fix. We map every lighting circuit to its dimmer channel on drawings, agree keypad positions on a walkthrough, and pull the speaker and Cat6A runs while the walls are open — because our electricians and our programmers are the same company, the loads and the logic are designed together.
Then we program for the household, not the demo: the scene names your family would actually say, a keypad by the door that shuts the whole house down, and an interface pruned of every option you’ll never press.
What that buys you is ordinary evenings that just work: one press of Goodnight and the house closes down behind you — doors locked, blinds drawn, heating stepped back, the landing light waiting at five per cent for whoever’s up first. Nobody opens an app. Nobody thinks about the system at all. That’s the point.
Can this be retrofitted, or is it new-build only?
Both. New builds and full refurbishments give the cleanest result because we wire at first fix. For occupied homes we design around what’s accessible — wireless dimming, existing speaker runs, surface-free routes — and we’re honest at survey about what retrofit can and can’t achieve.
Do we control everything from a phone?
You can, but you shouldn’t have to. The best systems disappear: a keypad where your hand already goes, scenes that fire on schedule or presence, and the app for when you’re away. If a light switch needs an unlock-swipe-scroll, the design has failed.
We already have a Control4 system another company installed. Will you support it?
Yes. Takeovers are a regular part of our work — we audit the project, document what exists, update firmware safely and then maintain or extend it. You don’t need to rip anything out to change installer.
What does a project like this cost?
It scales with rooms and scope: a wired multi-room audio and lighting package for a few key rooms sits in the low five figures; whole-house automation with cinema, blinds and door entry runs higher. After a survey you get a fixed, itemised quotation — every line priced, nothing “from”.
